The Laity
Laity means people. When Catholics speak about the Church, they are not only talking about a building, but about the people. Each individual person has an important role to play in society, and a story to tell about their faith journey. One of the most powerful ways of describing the Church is, "The People of God". Therefore being part of God's family means we have a responsibility to ourselves, each other and to God, to be more like Christ in service. Most Catholics are lay people and therefore they have not been ordained, yet they provide to the world in a variety of different ways.
The laity undertake the responsibility of carrying out the mission of the Church through the events of their daily lives. They live out the word of Christ by serving others and serving the Church.
